The Path

     "THE PATH"

All my life I’ve loved paths. I used to make paths through the woods behind my house when I was Young.. My brother and I used to make go-Cart paths.  I used to have a path that wound around through the woods and had rabbit hallows set through the trail to try to catch rabbits. As I grew older ,my paths  now include GPS coordinates and computer layouts. But I still have my paths through my yard covered in White Stone. There are also paths in life that we determine which one we are going to follow.
In Proverbs 4:14 we find” Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. “ The wicked path is one path we may choose to follow. Wicked is described as being Evil or morally wrong, dreadful. When I think of wicked I think of darkness. When I am in the dark in my boat I like to have my pole light on to see. If Im in the woods I like to use a flashlight to see my path. If you read Gods word David tells us in Psalms 119:105  Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
The second path we could choose would be the path to “righteousness”. Proverbs 4:18 proclaims  But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.  Rightousness is explained as Morally right up-right or justifiable.
God includes paths in his very own Prayer in Psalms 23:3
He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake
What path are you on? If there is a fork in the path what light source will you use to choose the right path? Just remember if your on the wrong path it’s not too late to switch to the right one!

CABIN FEVER

By Mike Sides
For the Salisbury Post
You are looking out the window as the rain freezes on the trees. You turn back into the room as you spot your 21 rods leaning in the corner with all your line spooled off on the floor.
Since going green is so popular these days, you gather up the line and place it in your recycle can, you realize that "cabin fever" has definitely set in.
Hunting season is over and memories of last year's glorious season begin to flood in. It is too cold to go fishing, so you begin to dream about the good days you had this past season.
So what do we do now?
Maybe you start the task of respooling your prize possessions in the corner or perhaps you begin replacing the rusty hooks on your over abundance of crankbaits. Maybe you could even put new skirts on your jigs and spinnerbaits. As you scratch your chin and think of this old routine you follow every year, you wonder — what more can I do?
Many people develop hobbies that relate to fishing, so there is something to do for your cabin fever. Some anglers learn the craft of lure making. There are many ways to make lures. Pouring your own soft plastic baits like worms and lizards is one way to create less space in your tackle box. Pouring lead to make weighted hooks and jig heads is another.
Some skilled fishermen cut out their own crankbaits out of balsa wood or cedar and creatively paint the lures as well as their fellow anglers old crankbaits.
To take a look at some of our own locally painted lures, you can go to http://www.get-tha-net.com.
Other anglers learn the craft of rod building. Replacement of eyes or cork handles on their casting and spinning rods are included in this procedure. Building custom rods to an angler's specifications is also a popular challenge.
Tournament directors and anglers this time of year spend their time searching for sponsors, new teams and finalizing schedules. Another good way to help cope with cabin fever is to visit the saltwater and freshwater expos that are prevalent this time of year, along with boat shows.
With high-tech GPS and sonar systems on the market these days, anglers can hook their units up to home computers and study the waypoints and maps they plotted in 2011 to be better fishermen in 2012.
Maybe you would rather just sit in front of your new high definition TV for shows like WFN, eat popcorn and dream on.
So what do you do? Here is another idea: the 2012 Piedmont N.C. Division of the Fishers Of Men National Bass Tournament Trail has released its schedule for 2012 t is:
March 10th, Belews Creek; March 24, Lake Wylie; April 21 Lake Norman; May 12, Badin Lake; June 16, High Rock Lake

JUST SAYIN................................

You know the Holy Spirit is an amazing thing. Unfortunately unless you have accepted Christ as your Savior, Then your not familiar with this amazing God given gift. Its kinda like Poison Ivy, unless you are in close contact with it, you don't get it. Ive always been one to say whats on my mind (just ask my boss)  I'm just sayin......so excuse me if your toes get crushed. I think it's funny when someone who is exclusively worldly experiences something exciting and thanks God for it as if it was an answer to prayer. Kinda like an alcoholic asking for a coke in a bar. Or how about a vampire getting excited about daylight. Bass and dry land? I'm just sayin........ The two just don't mix!
This week we had a Tournament at a Marina and we had to share it with another organization we will leave unnamed. I know it was for good intentions but they put on a banner (BUDWEISER/BUSCH)
Welcomes Fishers of Men and the "Other Organization",  I'm just sayin.........Seriously!!!!!!  some people just don't get it. And yes our name was removed from the the banner.
That little thing we call conscience is the Holy Spirit saying "hey dude, don't do that!!!!! I'm just Saying.......If ya want to get even with someone who treated you bad. If you can think erotically of the opposite sex or even the same sex , curse, steal, get drunk, or offend your friends( there are many more)Do you find yourself  talking alot about well........"Yourself", and your conscience does not bother you,  Im just sayin........there needs to be some serious soul searching initiated.
Now if you have accepted Christ as your Savior but have neglected to read your bible and talk to God?  I'm just saying! How about this, Take some time to do that and you will be amazed at what the Holy Spirit will reveal to you. If you Really want to know what God wants from you,,,,,,,,,,read Romans Chapter 12  its a great place to start. Hey and if you want to know what God Don't want from you read .......well, Romans Chapter 12 .So, if ya don't want to read that Chapter then go to http://www.bible.is and listen to it.
   Well I suppose I've said a mouthful............Think about it

REPUTATION

That Kids a BULLY……….Hey did you know Billys a RICH KID………Alice
will DATE anyone that breathes……….That guys a HOTI………..hes got
RELIGION so hes a preacher boy…….She is a good ATHLETE. These are a
few Reputations you hear about all the time and there are plenty more.
What is your reputation. What do your peers say about you or what do you say
about your peers?
Reputaion is a very important  thing .  Benjamin Franklin said “It takes many good deeds to build a good reputation and only one only one bad one to ruin it”. Sure you can ruin a BAD reputation but can you change a bad reputation to a GOOD one?   George Washington said  “associate with men of good quality,if you esteem your own   reputation; for it is better to be alone than to be in bad company.”
Many years ago Saul was a persecutor of Christians. He roamed the land sending Christians to Jerusalem to be placed in prison for their Christian values. Saul had a reputation of being Vain and Mean. Christians feared him. But one day Saul was on his way to Damascus to arrest some Christians, when God appeared as a great light and asked Saul why he was persecuting him. Saul was blinded and told to go to Damascus to be told what to do. In Damascus, Ananias told Saul ”Brother Receive your sight” and immediately he did. Sauls REPUATION was changed at that moment as he followed Christ and became one of the most devout Christians who ever lived.
Be concerned about your reputation friends. For it maybe the one thing that will either helps or hinders you in your Christian walk. We certainly do not want a REPUTATION of being a Hypocrite.

Fishing 101

Read Matt. 4:18-22

“Come and I will make you fishers of men.”
In my shallow thinking, I think that the simplest meaning for this passage of scripture is that Jesus was calling His disciples and every member of the church to be a witness of the gospel to everyone we meet.

Jesus was going to begin His disciples in a training course for ministry to a lost and dying world. I like to think of this training course as Fishing 101.

But we need to remember that these were professional fishermen that Jesus was talking to. They had a different perspective on fishing than most of us “recreational fishermen”.

In the words “fishers of men” the disciples understood that the same principles and techniques that are used to catch fish would apply in great part, to the preaching of the gospel and drawing men to Jesus.

But what kind of preparation goes into the “catching of fish”?

. Plan your trip.

A. Now if I were planning to go fishing in the morning, I would do just that; “plan the trip”.
1. I don’t know many people who just can drop everything and go fishing. They usually have to get their equipment and bait ready first.
2.I Keep my boat ready at all times to go fishing. I keep my rods, reels, and tackle boxes in the boat and kept the boat gassed up and ready
3. Now that didn’t mean that I didn’t have to plan the trip. It just meant that I had gotten everything ready to go before I parked the boat the last time.
B. If we are going to become “fishers of men” we cannot expect to catch a soul if there has been no preparation or planning in advance

1. We have to prepare ourselves to be the witness that we need to be.

2. There is no substitute for prayer and studying God’s word. A daily quiet time of prayer and study is the essential planning we need to win others to Christ.

II. Get your equipment together.

A. In my boat you could always find 14 rods. I hate tying knots while I was supposed to be fishing, so I keep a rod ready with every kind of bait I might use.

1. I have a small rig in case bass wouldn’t bite. I have a jig on a flipping Stick,a spinner bait rigged. I keep a rattletrap rigged up. And I keep a top-water rig ready. And on and on.

2. I stay ready so that rather than spend time tying on new baits, I was fishing all the time.

B. Just like I always had the right equipment to fish, God has given us the right equipment to be “fishers of men”.

1. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God is thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

2. The Holy Spirit also brings into our heart, our tackle box if you will, the attitudes we need. He provides us with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

3. If we have the Word and the Holy Spirit, we are ready to go out and to catch some “fish”.
III. We need to know the place that we are going to fish.

A. If you have ever fished on big water, you know how true this is.

1. A lake may be just filled with fish, but if you don’t know where to start looking for them it can be an unproductive day.

2. Many fishermen today use a GPS (global positioning system) to know where they are. They also have fish finders and all kinds of gadgets and gizmos to locate fish.

As a “fisher of men”, God has provided us with a positioning system. It’s called the Holy Spirit, and following it will always lead us to someone to share the gospel with.

. Another tool of the fishermen is the Weather Report.

A. The weather is vital to the activity of fish. So is the sunrise and sunset.

1. I always seem to catch more fish at daybreak and at sunset than any other time.

2. That means that even though it would be easier just to lie in bed on Sat. morning, if you want to catch fish, you’d better be on the lake.

B. And if you want to be “fishers of men”, you’d better go to where they are. John 9:4 says, “I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is still day: the night cometh, when no man can work.”

1. I can remember going out visiting on church visitation and hoping that no one would answer the door. That’s sad isn’t it?

2. But if we want to catch fish, we’ve got to cast the bait in front of them early in the morning and just before sunset.

3. It’s in the dark hours that people need a touch from the Lord, the hours in the hospitals and funeral homes. And it’s in these dark hours that they are most receptive to the Gospel message.

. The fisherman knows how to choose the right bait in order to catch the kind of fish that he’s fishing for.

A. You wouldn’t cast a 12” auger snake on a 5/0 hook in the water to try to catch a bream would you.

1. The poor bream would either run from it or choke to death on it!

2. You would use a cricket on a 1/0 hook or maybe a ¼ ounce beetle-spin.

B. Well when you’re fishing for lost souls, don’t start by using your interpretation of the visions of Daniel.

1. A lost person will either run from it or choke to death on it!

2. Just share the simple Gospel that Jesus died to redeem us and give us eternal life. That’s enough.

. And the last thing I want you to remember is this. Expect to catch fish. And remember, if he don’t get in the boat, he don’t count. Almost don’t count.

A. “There is a thin line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot.”

1. There are lots of idiots standing on the shore in our churches across America.

2. If all Christians were even half the prayer warriors and soul winners that we claim to be, our churches would be full. Almost doesn’t count.

B. In Acts 26:28 it says, “Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.”

1. King Agrippa is an almost. He nibbled at the bait but then turned away. Paul couldn’t count him as a convert.

2. All almost will get a person is a reserved place in the Lake of Fire.

3. Being “fishers of men” has eternal consequences.

Conclusion

Read Jeremiah 16:14-17

Let’s renew our commitment tonight to be fishers of men.
Will you be one of those fishermen?
